How to Download Images From Any Website (And What to Know About Instagram)

You need the photos from a product page for a client deck. Or the whole gallery from a portfolio site you're studying. Or your own posted photos from a social account before you deactivate it. The need is simple — but the way you satisfy it matters, because the internet is full of "downloader" sites that are far more interested in your data than in the images.

This guide covers both scales of the problem: grabbing a single image the safe way, downloading everything from a page without uploading a byte to anyone, and — because it's the most common trap — what to actually watch out for with Instagram.

Save One Image vs Save All Images

If you need one or two images, the built-in browser tools are all you need:

• Right-click → "Save image as…" saves the displayed file to any folder.
• Drag the image out of the browser window onto your desktop or into a folder — quick and quietly satisfying.
• Open image in new tab to check you're saving the largest available version, not a thumbnail.

That's enough for single grabs. It stops being enough the moment the count grows: a 60-photo gallery, an e-commerce category with hundreds of product shots, a designer's portfolio. Right-clicking sixty times is slow, easy to fumble, and — on modern websites — incomplete, because many images are not plain <img> tags at all. They hide in CSS backgrounds, in srcset responsive variants, in video posters, or inside SVG. Some of them can't even be right-clicked.
