Block All Shortcuts on a Website: New Site Presets for YouTube, X, Reddit, Facebook & GitHub

The problem: one key, one unintended action

YouTube mutes when you meant to type. X likes a post when your hand brushed L. Reddit casts a vote on A, Facebook jumps to the next post on J, and GitHub steals focus with S. Bare-key shortcuts are wonderful for people who live in an app and a minefield for everyone else.

VKT Shortcut has always let you record and block those keys one by one. Version 1.3.0 adds two faster ways to disarm a whole site: Site Presets and Block All Shortcuts.

What is new in VKT Shortcut 1.3.0

Site Presets

The side panel now carries a collapsible Site Presets list: every supported site with the keys that commonly bite there and a one-click Block button. A preset creates ordinary block rules scoped to that domain, so everything stays visible, editable and easy to remove.

SitePreset keysWhy they bite
YouTubeK J L M F C I TPlay/pause, seek, mute, fullscreen, captions, miniplayer and theater mode fire while the player has focus.
XN L R T B M /Compose, like, reply, repost, bookmark, DM and search — one stray letter acts on the selected post.
RedditA Z J K C SUpvote, downvote, next/previous post, comment and save, all on bare keys.
FacebookJ K L C S /Post navigation, like, comment, share and search jump into action on a single keypress.
GitHubS T W B XFocus search, file finder, branch switcher, blame and task-list toggles fire whenever focus leaves an input.
DoubaoCtrl+JCollides with the browser’s downloads shortcut.
NotionCtrl/Cmd+P, Ctrl/Cmd+JQuick find and next database page shadow print and downloads.
VS Code WebCtrl/Cmd+P, Ctrl/Cmd+JQuick open and the panel toggle shadow print and downloads.

Modifiers adapt to your platform: presets described as Ctrl on Windows and Linux become Cmd on macOS, so the same preset produces ⌘+J on a Mac.

How to use Site Presets

  1. Update and reload. Install version 1.3.0, press Reload on chrome://extensions, then refresh the website — content scripts only attach to pages loaded after the update.
  2. Open the side panel and expand Site Presets. The bar lists every supported site up front — YouTube, X, Reddit, Facebook, GitHub, Doubao, Notion and VS Code Web — with its keys, so you can prepare rules before you visit the site.
  3. Click Block on a row. One block rule per key is created, scoped to that domain, and the list updates immediately. Once every key of a site is covered, its row shows a checkmark instead of the button.

The bar does not come and go. All eight sites stay listed whether the current site is paused or a block-all switch is on, so a preset is always one click away. If a preset needs more rules than your free quota has left, it adds only what fits and tells you exactly how many landed.

Block all page shortcuts, per site or everywhere

The current-site bar has a Block all page shortcuts switch, and the Block All Shortcuts bar at the top of the panel applies to every website at once. A per-site pause still wins, so one site can stay untouched while the global switch is on.

Neither switch turns the page into a brick. These keep working:

Browser-reserved shortcuts such as Ctrl+W, Ctrl+T and F11 never reach the page, so no content-script extension can block them. The page-level keys are the ones this tool owns.

Honest limits and FAQ

The free tier allows 20 rules. Each preset key becomes its own rule: the eight-key YouTube preset costs 8, X costs 7, and Reddit and Facebook 6 each. You only reach the cap after applying most of the eight presets (37 rules in total) — far beyond everyday use. If your goal is simply “nothing on this site responds”, use the free per-site Block all page shortcuts switch instead — it costs no rules.

Presets are deliberately a short, verified list. A site only gets one when the conflict is real and the keys are genuinely disruptive; adding every site with hotkeys would turn the feature into noise.

Why do I not see a preset row?

Three common reasons: the current host is not one of the curated sites; the site is paused or a block-all switch is on; or your existing rules already cover every preset key. After updating the extension, reload it on chrome://extensions and refresh the page so the new content script is injected.

Does “Block all” stop me from typing?

No. Editable fields are exempt, and a pass list keeps Tab, Enter, Space, Escape, arrow keys, Home/End/PageUp/PageDown, clipboard/undo and refresh working.

Can I undo a preset?

Yes. Presets create normal rules. Toggle or delete any of them in the side panel, or use the global All Rules switch to pause everything without deleting it.

Does it work on macOS?

Yes. Presets that use the primary modifier automatically become Cmd on a Mac, so Doubao and Notion/VS Code Web presets produce Cmd+J or Cmd+P.

Is it free?

Blocking is free up to 20 rules. Site-wide and global block-all switches are free too. Premium adds unlimited rules, key remapping and JSON import/export.

The new presets and block-all switches are available in VKT Shortcut 1.3.0 for Chrome and Edge. Install it, open the panel on a noisy site, and take your keys back.
